Wow, I Didn't Know...

...that title is said with a sarcastic tone. I read this article today and thought well, duh. If the adult portions are unhealthy then what makes anyone think the kids' options are any healthier? Because they serve apples slices made to look like fries? Kids are still eating a fatty salty burger or chicken nubbins. We need FAST RAW FOOD restaurants (a dream) for those looking for convenience and healthy options because McDonald's and Wendy's aren't the type of places that come to mind when looking for good eats. Kudos to those trying to make a change but we're a loooooooooong ways away from seeing any real change.

I don't think we're going to see that sort of thing anytime soon for a couple of reasons. Fast food restaurants keep the cost low by providing easy to cook 'meals'. Raw food is a lot of work from what I can tell by reading your blog. :)

Also, most kids just won't eat the stuff. Heck, I have a hard enough time getting BJ to eat vegetables. At the end of the day, when you're a parent, you want something easy, quick and something your kids will eat.
Great dream though. I would like it. Instead, I am supporting our "farmer's market" here in town. It consists of a wagon under an umbrella on an empty lot with lots of yummy fresh stuff imported from "up north". I feel so privileged to even get that much in this tiny desert town.

I am with you all the way... What people eat sometimes without even thinking about it is appaling!
Also I will be skipping dehydrating the sunflower seeds too. I mean if I am gonna d'drate them after they are mixed anyway why would I dry them twice???

Interesting - they're showing one of the US Biggest Losers seasons over here right now. Last episode they were sent home for a week, one guy took his kid for a meal, and the kid's portion just about covered the table. I remember thinking 'holy crap, man, are you kidding me?' Obviously not... :)

I'm afraid I'll have to echo what risiblegirl said. We've been to vegan restaurants, and we're lucky if my kids find one thing they're willing to eat. Then we have to hear the complaints for months to come...

But it might be nice for adults. Yes, the farmer's market does come close to that.

You speak truth Heidi!

Thanks for your kind comments re my aunt - I do hope she's in peace.

I'm taking a flexible approach to my exercise routine. Today for example I did 10 laps (420 metres) but I exercised!

Good luck with your goals - we can do this :-)

*sigh* The thing with kids? It's the stupid toys. SPC - remember? Small Plastic Crap? My kids - they could care less about the food, it's not something they die for (huh.) it's the stupid toys. AND - yes, as a parent, guilty as charged - it's quick & easy. I'm happy to say though - we're going on 2 months fast food free! YAY US! We've found that our kids get excited about trying new fruits/veggies when we make it a family deal. Whether it's through growing it in our garden (may I brag for a mo? It seriously rocks.) or going to a farmer's market and letting them pick out something. Prickly pear anyone? Anyway - raw food movement or any healthy food choice, unless they've grown up with it, usually doesn't happen until they become aware of it - which is when they're teenagers or older. JMO.

Hey there! I'm back from vacation! I actually ate some apple fries on the road when hubby stopped at BK for the BK Veggie Burger. It helped ease the temptation of french fries for me (my BIGGEST weakness)!!!
