WEGO Health: Six Sentence Story

Image
Today's challenge is micro-blogging. Write a story in six sentences. Here's mine. My Health Focus: In a Nutshell I started talking a lot about wanting to make changes in my health and diet but when faced with obvious opportunity and support, I sat on the couch and complained some more. But, then I agreed to make some small changes so I didn’t feel like I was getting jipped or feel like I was giving up my life for boringness. Changes are hard but many times necessary and worth it. Those little changes led to bigger changes and ones that I decided on without any encouragement because I was ready and wanting to make them. Little did I know at the time what favors I was doing my body; my body saying THANK YOU! I may still struggle with some changes nowadays but I know what the payoff is like and I am willing and ready to do what it takes to get there…for me.

WEGO Health: I Learned the Hard Way

Image
Prior to exploring a healthy journey, I was overweight (big surprise! /sarcasm). Not obese but definitely way out of shape. Huff n’ puff. I didn’t suffer from many health problems as a result. I was lucky. However, I did have one ailment:   plantar fasciitis . image I’d wake up each morning with one and eventually, both feet, aching until I was able to stretch them for awhile or put pressure on them, but even then they’d still be tender. I’d feel it in my heels all the time. I couldn’t figure it out until I mentioned it to my doctor. She thought plantar fasciitis but referred me to a specialist. The foot doctor confirmed her thought. Now, a perfectly fit person, most often a runner, can develop plantar fasciitis because of the abuse their feet take. Well, we all know I was in no way running (ha!) or exercising much so that wasn’t the reason I was experiencing it. It was all due to weight and probably cheap flip flops. My poor aching feet! It was worse ...

WEGO Health: My Health Focus Pinboard

Image
Day 16 of HAWMC/WEGO Health . Today’s exercise or challenge is to create a pinboard for my health focus and pin three things. Easy! Except, I pinned four things because I’m a rebel that way. The first image I think is self-explanatory. I was blessed with a healthy body. It’s not perfect and it never will be but I have a responsibility to myself and my family to take care of it best I can. I don’t want to wake up one day and say, “I wish I did…” Walking: this is my current form of exercise. Not bad at all I say! I don’t have to be a marathon runner or be able to lift 350 pounds to be considered healthy and/or fit. Walking is enjoyable and something I don’t have to think about as exercise. Plus, it's free and eco-friendly. Going to a gym to workout isn’t my idea of a good time -- not to say I wouldn’t ever go or it doesn’t have its many benefits, it’s just not as fun to me as going for a walk in the great outdoors, granted the weather cooperates. Ha! Anyway, seeing this ...

Easter Weekend Recap

Image
Hello guys! Hopefully, you all had a great Easter weekend. I know one person did (congrats!)! Can you believe it’s the last week of April?? Wow. You know what this means…it’s almost YS2’s second birthday! Next Tuesday. Sniff. My lil guy is becoming a BOY! Just prior to this past weekend, I started to get a cold. A slow-moving cold. It finally gained steam and presented itself on Sunday. Poo. I will say if you have to get a cold, this is the one to get (like we have a choice). It’s slow to take hold and the worst symptoms are lack of energy and nasal congestion/cough. No headaches, no grumpiness (not counting being annoyed), no sore throat, no feeling really bad. The end. I was still able to fix dinner (not raw, far from it except for salad). I really wanted what I had planned: vegan shepherd’s pie, salad with balsamic vinaigrette sprinkled with pistachios, and apple crisp for dessert. Um, hello! No pics. Nope, notta one! Lame huh? By the time it was all ready it was time to e...

The Best Laid Plans...

...of mice and men often go astray - adapted from Robert Burns, To a Mouse , November 1785 Hola amigos (I should just say amigas since there are more girlies reading this than boys I’m sure…)! Hope you all had a fine weekend. Me? Well, you can guess based on the title and opening line things didn’t quite go as planned. Before I begin, I’d like to say to whoever is charge of making weekends a 2-day thing to please consider 5 days. That would be really nice. K, thanks. Saturday started out as planned: busy. To get me going, I made my usual smoothie with banana, spinach, peanut butter, cacao, and other tasty things. YS2 likes this too so we shared. To spare you the play-by-play, we ran our errands and did our things. We did stop at an Asian market that just opened a little closer to us. And we did our part to support them by sampling a few veggie eats (we ignored for the moment the possible bad things in it [animal products were avoided, however]) and picking up a cute miso bowl fo...

Post Christmas

Image
Hello! Just wanted to say thanks again for the well wishes and healing thoughts. They truly helped and meant a lot to me. I'm not 100% yet (throat still hurts) but I'm way better than I was including no more pink eye . Now that Christmas has passed, hopefully you survived :) Actually, I hope you were able to enjoy it and create wonderful memories. Since last year at this time YS2 wasn’t very mobile, Christmas this year was a lot more fun and even challenging at times. Experiencing the holidays through his eyes was so fun and really made things more special. Everything was new and beautiful and exciting and well, just amazing. Nothing had to be elaborate or expensive or in mass quantity. And Santa is still some strange old guy . Our tree this year was a “toddler tree.” Meaning, there were only lights, which kept getting yanked pulled off and a few ornaments hung on the top third of the tree out of reach of a 19 month old. So even though it was sparse, it was still the hap...

Hot Mess

Hey guys! The holidays are fast approaching! Are you ready? Are you all done with your shopping or still have last minute things to buy? Thanks to hubs, I think I'm pretty much done. Fortunately, the list was simple - not many big ticket items on there like  tv stand s (I could use one actually) or laptops. Hubs had to finish shopping and sending out packages (forget the cards this year folks, not enough time!) because as I mentioned before I've been sick. Um yeah, it only got worse. ;( I woke up Thursday morning with this horrible cold oozing out of my eyes! SOOOOO GROSS! Conjunctivitis better known as pink eye . Lovely. Hot mess I tell ya. Nothing like waking up with a goopy eye that's swollen and red. I've never had it before so I wasn't quite sure what I was dealing with. Oh how I wish I had known... I ended up having to cancel my eye appointment for that day to renew my contact lens prescription. I'm pretty sure they wouldn't have appreciated me...

Please Excuse Me

I'm sick as a dog (what's with that saying anyway?) and don't feel like doing much of anything unless I have to. I know I owe a post to update you on our little road trip (it was just overnight so not THAT exciting but for YS2 it was!) but I don't have much desire/energy to focus the time on it just yet. This all started Monday night, where I could feel the throat start to get sore. Not scratchy or tickle-y but sore from where you first start to swallow. Fortunately, it's not strep (I've had that twice in my life and it's HORRIBLE) and I don't think it's the flu unless you consider it a 24 hour flu that turns into a very, very nasty cold. Had a fever of 102+ and slept a lot the first day. But whatever this illness is, it truly sucks. Glad it's happening this week and not next week, though. It's weird being home sick from work for three days. So unlike me. I just pray with fingers and toes crossed that my family doesn't get my germs. E...

Quiet Days

Remember to enter my giveaway for a Trek Light Gear double hammock . You really don’t want to pass this one up (but for the other entrants they do, you know, to better their chances *wink*). And don’t let the cooler weather keep you from entering (if you’re a hardcore outdoorsy type then weather isn’t an issue) because this hammock is so lightweight and compact that storing wouldn’t be an issue until you’re ready to take out. Or you know, the holidays are coming up; would make a great gift…anyway, go enter if you haven’t. We took Caleb to the mall the other night just for fun – window shopping and people watching. I always enjoy that and I know Caleb had fun. We let him walk around a bit, albeit carefully. He still hasn’t taken to wearing shoes so he was walking around in his socks. Although, Sam found him some shoes at Target he would finally wear. Looks like a great fit to me. What do you think?  At the mall: Bummer thing is, less than 12 hours later, he woke up with...

Garden Update (last one?)

Image
Our summer garden is winding down. However, Yardsnacker is working on prepping it for some winter gardening. Yeah, you read that right. A winter garden. Lettuce, kale, peas, and lots more. So while this may be my last post about our summer garden (or maybe one more, we'll see) you will still see some future garden posts throughout the winter. We are still harvesting strawberries. I mean, like at least a couple of pints every two days. Most of the time they don't last the trip home. We just inhale eat them right there in the garden. Homegrown strawberries don't last long anyway before they start to get mushy after a few hours it seems so it's best to just eat right away. Just doing my part to make sure they don't go to waste (Caleb too). YS2 snacking in the garden YS2 snacking at home: The Aftermath Maybe you know this but there are rules for growing strawberries in their first year. Like snip off the runners and don't harvest, all to encourage root dev...
