Goodbye GITMR!

Image
You may have heard already that Dhrumil has made the decision to shut down the Give it to Me Raw (GITMR) website/community on June 26th. You can watch his video here explaining his decision. Even though I have not logged into GITMR in quite some time, I respect his decision and his reasons for it. When your heart isn't in it anymore it's probably time to move on. Some of his comments are in line with how I view my own blog (no, I'm not going away!) but his views on holistic health. I initially started this blog with raw vegan food as the focus but as I have evolved so has my blog. As you can tell, I don't always talk about raw food. I love different topics. I love variety. Maybe it's because I get bored talking about one thing or maybe it's my personality but talking a little bit of this and a little bit of that is what I enjoy. < --- I'm talking about my blog only, not others'. I've lost readers over the years because I don't always f...

Ramblings

source Hello everybuddy! Loved the comments and support on my last post . Many of you feel the same that it’s just nobody’s business when it comes to breastfeeding. Thank you media for stirring the pot unnecessarily. At the same time though, while on Pinterest , one of the people I follow (or in this case, a company), Motherlove Herbal Company ,  posted a link to an article on extended breastfeeding and its many benefits.  An interesting read if you’ve got the time. I will point out what this article mentions that the average duration for breastfeeding around the world is 4.2 years of age . So anyway, there you go. Keep doing what YOU feel is best. Hope you had a great Mother’s Day (even if you don’t have kids of your own, I feel like we’re all mothers in some way to someone even if they’re the furry kind). I had a good day. A few days before mama’s day, I got treated to a 2-hour Thai massage. Oh my. I’d never had one before so I was a bit freaked be...

source Breastfeeding a toddler. Why is this news or still a controversy? I mean really. People get so up in arms about breastfeeding in public (I didn't too often but when I did I covered up - some don't cover up but I certainly don't find it offensive) or in this case, breastfeeding past an age some feel is appropriate. Really? Why do they care? Why does it matter? Who is it hurting? Honestly. Bottom line: breastfeeding is healthy for both mom and child and creates an unbreakable bond. To ensure your child is getting all the nutrients and has a strong, healthy immune system breastfeeding is ideal (putting aside those who can't for various health issues or reasons, such as adoption). People think these mothers who breastfeed for extended periods of time will continue to nurse their children into their pre-teen and teenage years. Get real and grow up. General society and the media think we should forgo breastfeeding because of inconvenience or it's too pa...

WEGO Health: Recap

Image
Hey hey everybody! Hooo-weeee! I made it! I completed my first ever writer's challenge. Glad I could participate in the WEGO Health - Health Activist Writer's Month Challenge, writing 30 posts in 30 days. Well...I did 25 out of 30. Not too shabby. I want to THANK YOU all for reading along and supporting me in my challenge, which was no easy feat (for you or for me *wink*). I learned in this process that I still do not desire to write everyday. Ha ha! I was able to participate in this challenge mainly because my time allowed but as you may have noticed, I started to slow down at the end. This was both for needing a break and also work starting to get busy again. What was great about this challenge, with the help of the topic prompts, was stretching myself in different ways; thinking outside of my norm. It brought new life and motivation to my health focus and blogging as a whole. A few of my favorite challenges were the health haikus, open a book ..., and a letter to...

WEGO Health

Stream of Consciousness Day . Start with the sentence “_______”just write, don’t stop, don’t edit. Post! When I first saw this prompt, I drew a blank. What do I write about? What goes on in my head? Ha ha! We may not want to know but today will be a peek. This post may be sloppy with run-on sentences and spelling errors. Thanksfully, some will be corrected thanks to autocorrect. Some will live on forever on this blog. Anyway, starting to think about this was giving me a complex I think. I'm actually afraid to do this for fear of where this may go. I almost didn't do this one. This writing challenge has been good for me in a lot of ways but in one other way, I feel inferior. Inadequate. I know I shouldn’t compare myself to others but I can’t help it sometimes. Many of these other writers are facing real serious challenges and illnesses and here I sit typing away about fluff stuff and being a little overweight and that my biggest challenge is keeping a...

WEGO Health: Health Activist Choice + a giveaway

Image
Hiya friends! Thanks for your support thus far on my writing challenge. It's been fun and interesting for me to do this and fortunately, I enjoy writing (a new discovery in recent years). Today's topic for HAWMC/WEGO Health - Day 7, is whatever I choose . Hmm...what to choose, what to choose...well, it was fairly easy for me to decide, actually. It's having a hobby...or two or however many, or some sort of other outlet or me-time. Something along those lines. * Maybe it's because I'm a Libra but I've always believed in balance . One should always have balance in their life, in every aspect. These days it's so easy to get out of balance because we're pulled in so many different directions with our jobs, school, home life, health, etc. that there's not much time left over to just be or to have some other form of (creative) outlet. Having a hobby or something you really enjoy doing is a great way to get back into balance. Regroup, refocus, rel...

I did it!

Howdy friends! It's been almost a week but welcome to spring! I took a couple days off from work to have an extra long weekend (love!) and it was quite timely, too. Our weather improved. Maybe I should take more days off… ha ha! Guess I should warn you now that in the near future a picture-heavy post is coming because I love spring and seeing all the blossoms and new life I can’t help but take a bazillion pics. This post is about doing some other things, hence the title. Like buying some much needed raw food staples. Okay, it was Sam who broke down and did some online shopping via RawFoodWorld.com . We didn't get everything there, mostly things that were too good of a deal to pass up. I still have some other shopping to do and would like to do that locally. Anyway, we got some boring stuff like maca (crazy good deal), raw carob (personally, I’m not a fan of carob much), mesquite, and agave (I don’t buy into the whole thing that all agave is bad so I still use it, among o...

Getting Back in the Groove

Image
Hellooo! I feel like I’ve been away for so long, too long. I’ve popped in here and there but it’s been awhile since I sat down and gave my blog (and you) a little more attention. I was so busy that I completely forgot about my blog anniversary, which was in February. Funny. Oh well. Woo hoo. I do feel a little out of touch and definitely a lot behind. I always feel guilty posting on my blog before I’ve caught up on everyone else’s. Like I'm being selfish but here I am. I find that when I do have breaks, usually in the late evening, blogging isn’t at the top of my list. I’m more likely to do something a little more mindless such as Pinterest (and pin like a mad woman!) or watching Survivor. I’m in my downtime period now so hopefully I’ll be a little more present, here and there. Being busy then follow that up with laziness, I still haven’t done my raw foods shopping. Grr. How many times have I mentioned this?? So instead I made some semi-raw/rawish " no-bake energy bites ...

This n That

Hey hey! I feel like this month is going kind of slow but on the other hand, I can’t believe it’s nearly over. I dunno, it’s just craziness. Work’s been keeping me busy busy so I’m behind on things…like catching up on blogs. I’ve been trying though! I’ll catch up eventually. So if you haven’t seen me yet, you will. Valentine’s was a lovely day for us here. Hopefully, for you too. We exchanged presents and cards, nothing too fancy because that’s just how we roll but I did splurge and get some goodies from Heathy of Sweetly Raw . We dug into the treats before properly taking pics. Can you blame me? The caramel pecans? Oh yeah! So nummy! I have to admit some goodies didn't make it to the photoshoot. Oops. Yummy, though. :) And in Sam fashion for V-day, he got me flowers…to PLANT! Primroses. They smell so wonderful! Speaking of primroses, have any of you read " The Hunger Games "? I just started reading it. I’m already looking forward to the movie. If you've r...

DIY: Face Scrub

Image
Hello and happy Monday! Tomorrow is Valentine's Day . Do you love or hate V-day? I used to loathe it. My expectations were too high or too low, not sure which but I got to a point where I treated it as any other day, just a day. Of course, things have changed so now I enjoy it. But, no matter how you feel about it, I hope it's a good day for all. By the way, thanks for your comments on my worst first date post. It's long in the past so I can definitely look back on it and laugh (while shaking my head). Everyone's got to have at least one bad date right? Sad that some of you have had worse! I feel for you. Another BTW, I haven't announced the winner of the Morrocco Method giveaway yet because I haven't heard back from them yet (I emailed them). Sooo, if they don't respond very soon I'll have to choose another winner and maybe it will be one of you! Stay tuned. Boy, I'm chatty. Okay, now, for today's post. Sugar Face Scrub . I. Am. In. L...

My Worst Date

Image
Hey hey Valentine peeps! I thought in honor of the Day of Love, I'd share with you my worst (first) date story. I lived to tell the tale so you know, in the end, everything turns out a-ok! * I do not have any pics from said sorry tale (this is a good thing in retrospect), so all pics you see are courtesy of other sources . K, here we go...it's long, sorry. If you've got a few minutes to spare, feel free to read on. Not sure if this counts as a true first date but there was this guy I was sorta seeing. We “hung” out a lot but he never took me out officially (should’ve been my first clue this guy was not worth my time). Well, an opportunity came around where I took HIM out. My company was organizing a river rafting trip and I’d always wanted to go so here was my chance. I paid for the trip and invited him. Figured if he said no I could ask someone else to join me. Well, he said yes. Real date set… On the day of the trip, I picked him up and drove the 2 hours to the ...

Winter

Image
Happy Sunday everyone! Hopefully, the weekend has been great for you. They’re never long enough though, huh? So all last week, I worked from home due to the snow. You probably saw it on your news (sorry about that -- our snow made your news, believe me, it was on here too. All. The. Time.) and Californians made fun of us . Silly. In our defense, we're not equipped for much snow nor are we used to much snow. We get occasional snow in the city but not often do we get amounts equal to other winter wonderlands like we experienced last week (at our house, we got about 8 or more inches). This stuff is for the mountains! We don't have a fleet or two of snowplows at our disposal to help us get around and we have lots and lots of hills. However, most Seattleites cannot drive in the snow even when there's a little bit so you can imagine the mess. And because I know this after living here long enough, I also realized I didn’t want to get stuck on the bus for hours...
