First Harvest

Our first strawberry pickin's! They are shown amongst some fresh spinach given to us by another gardener. We're discovering though that SLUGS love to EAT our STRAWBERRIES! Slugs are gross and need to find a new place to live. Stupid ugly slimy things. Grr!

Hubby went out to the garden the other day and ate a bunch since they were ripe and didn't want the slugs to get them first. He said they were the best he's ever had. It was as though he'd never had one before. I believe him.

Strawberries are the best! Especially if they're organic and more especially if they're from your own garden.

Off to the garden now. Update to follow. Just what you wanted to hear. heh heh! Pretty soon I won't be talking about my garden for months so just bear with me for now.

Just how many strawberry plants do you guys have? We're "harvesting" just 2-3 every few days. Nothing like what you've got in the picture! Also, do you find a certain variety do better than others?

What could be better than your own organic strawberries picked & eaten before the slugs get to them?

You've got the makings of a spinach-strawberry smoothie right there in that picture but I bet there's more pleasure in eating them just the way they come :-)

Enjoy!

Oh, YUM! Keep up the garden talk! (You could surround the garden/strawberries with copper, but then meth kids might sneak in there, too. Ack!)

We had a great harvest of strawberries this year. They are taking over our backyard! OK with me.

Right now I am in Israel, and you can only get strawberries in the winter here, not in early summer like in the U.S. Peaches are now ripe here.

I have four strawberry plants and it looks like they're getting ready to produce a LOT of fruit.

Too bad I cant eat strawberries, but BJ will be in heaven!

My tomatoes are also blooming. Nothing but the yellow buds yet, but like I said, my garden always seems to be about 3 weeks behind everyone else's. Maybe my garden is just super laid back, eh?

I just spent a few hours in the garden and have decided that it was a bit too fast and furious. I started getting chills and nauseated. Me thinks I overdid it a bit. Oh well, it looks super nice.

Good morning Heidi
What a lovely garden photo. My garden currently is absolutely overgrown with weeds. As we drove in from a vacation week in Kansas with our daughter, it was pouring down rain - so I figure by tomorrow the ground will be just right for a day pulling weeds.

I've started a new Juice Feast - common sense reigns again. It has been so beneficial for me. My hope is that the remainder of my summer will be nice and juicy.

Thank you again, so much, for your support.

Love to you and yours

Oh man! I'm so jealous! Those strawberries look like they are bursting with flavor. I would be eating them in the garden too and blaming those darn slugs when I came back empty-handed :-) LOL
I have the hardest time growing them here, I don't know why. I love reading about your garden adventures please keep them coming!!!

I'm jealous too!! I really, really wanted to grow strawberries this year... too darn much on my plate! And because of that, I've been loving your garden posts because I get to live vicariously through you!

One thing you can try for slugs is get some broken up pieces of nut shells, slugs don't like the sharp edges and won't walk on them, you can put them around your plants like mulch!

Happy strawberries!
