DIY: Deodorant

Image
It's been awhile since I've shared a DIY I experimented with so today I bring you homemade deodorant. I'm sure someone I know reading this will think I've totally lost it and am about to run for the hills to live out my days free of shampoo and razors (I can think of a few who think I'm weird so this will just add to the list), but honestly, that is not the case. I still shave; I still wear makeup (sometimes...less so during the summer); I still use shampoo, although, healthier kinds. I'm not 100% hippie but I do have my tendencies, which I'm proud of. Peace. Anyway. I gave up using antiperspirants years ago and began using deodorant. What's the difference between the two you ask? One blocks/clogs your pores (bad) and one lets you breathe (good). Read here  for more. Basically, steer clear of antiperspirants for your health (say no to aluminum). Deodorant is much better. If you're still curious, just google 'antiperspirant dangers' or clic...

New Love

Image
Howdy-ho kids! Life’s been good these days and thanks to one of my pals, Maria , for making it even better! She was sweet to send me some goodies in the mail recently and the highlight was some organic raw chocolate from Lulu’s . my goodies I had never sampled Lulu’s before but knew Maria was a big fan so when she parted with some of her faves and shared them with me, I was honored. Of course, I quickly dove in. Who can resist chocolate?! Every once in a while I come across someone who isn’t a fan and I think, “whaaaa?” Does not compute. Anyway, back to Lulu’s Chocolates . I tried Sedona Spice, Chocolate Maca Chunk, Aztec Crunch, and Smoked Sea Salt Almond. What’s great about Lulu’s is she tells you exactly what goes into each bar .   They’re also low-glycemic because they are made with coconut sugar from Coconut Secret . Mmm! All of the cacao is fair-trade, sourced from small family farms using sustainable practices. Plus it’s organic. So all around you’re ge...

This is for you Kelli!

This n That

Hey hey! I feel like this month is going kind of slow but on the other hand, I can’t believe it’s nearly over. I dunno, it’s just craziness. Work’s been keeping me busy busy so I’m behind on things…like catching up on blogs. I’ve been trying though! I’ll catch up eventually. So if you haven’t seen me yet, you will. Valentine’s was a lovely day for us here. Hopefully, for you too. We exchanged presents and cards, nothing too fancy because that’s just how we roll but I did splurge and get some goodies from Heathy of Sweetly Raw . We dug into the treats before properly taking pics. Can you blame me? The caramel pecans? Oh yeah! So nummy! I have to admit some goodies didn't make it to the photoshoot. Oops. Yummy, though. :) And in Sam fashion for V-day, he got me flowers…to PLANT! Primroses. They smell so wonderful! Speaking of primroses, have any of you read " The Hunger Games "? I just started reading it. I’m already looking forward to the movie. If you've r...

DIY: Face Scrub

Image
Hello and happy Monday! Tomorrow is Valentine's Day . Do you love or hate V-day? I used to loathe it. My expectations were too high or too low, not sure which but I got to a point where I treated it as any other day, just a day. Of course, things have changed so now I enjoy it. But, no matter how you feel about it, I hope it's a good day for all. By the way, thanks for your comments on my worst first date post. It's long in the past so I can definitely look back on it and laugh (while shaking my head). Everyone's got to have at least one bad date right? Sad that some of you have had worse! I feel for you. Another BTW, I haven't announced the winner of the Morrocco Method giveaway yet because I haven't heard back from them yet (I emailed them). Sooo, if they don't respond very soon I'll have to choose another winner and maybe it will be one of you! Stay tuned. Boy, I'm chatty. Okay, now, for today's post. Sugar Face Scrub . I. Am. In. L...

Super Weekend

Image
Hello super friends! It was a super weekend with super awesome weather here! It was practically spring! YS2 took a few bike trips outside. Did you watch the Super Bowl? I did not. I love football but didn't care about either team. Sorry fans of either. Also, it helps if one has TV...we don't, by choice, so no game or commercials for me. I watched the halftime show online (tsk tsk MIA!). :) So instead of watching the big game or eating tons of food, I was making raw onion bread . What's sad is I only had enough flax seeds for onion bread so I made a double batch. Not that I'm complaining mind you, I just was in the mood to make more raw stuff. Yeah, I could've gone to the store but I didn't feel like it. Actually, if Raw Vegan Source was open on Sunday, I totally would've gone shopping. You wouldn't believe how long my list is and now it's even longer. When I do go shopping in the near future, I'll have to close my eyes and cover my ears when...

DIY: Carpet Cleaner

Image
The quality, not the longevity, of one's life is what is important. ~Martin Luther King, Jr. Happy Monday and MLK day! It's a snow day for me today. Well, sorta. I'm working from home. My bus doesn't run today because of the holiday and then we had a big snow storm (for here) blow thru that my commute would be particularly long that I decided to just stay home. We went from this one night: To this the next: The weathermen were right for once! It's so beautiful. Cold but beautiful. And it's better when you don't have to drive in it. We're just not equipped around here for such snowy-ness. But, it's been fun taking YS2 out to play. Everytime I try to make a snowman though, he kicks the snow. Sorry Frosty! So I'm back again with another DIY for you, the main reason for today's post. It's fun doing homemade stuff, I think. Glad a lot of you liked the makeup brush cleaner . Many of these DIY projects are so simple and cost so lit...

Juice Contest Winner

Image
Happy Monday, friends! Hope you had a good weekend -- we did. Went by way too fast though (typical). I'm sad summer is going but I am looking forward to fall and this weekend was very fall. Cloudy, rainy (at night), still a little warm but breezy. Cozy. Which got us in a movie mood. Have you seen (or read) " Water for Elephants ?" I haven't read the book but heard it's good. Now that I've seen the movie, I won't be reading the book but then again, I wasn't planning on it anyway. I won't review the movie here because I don't want to give anything away (I'm horrible with stuff like that) but will say I heart Rosie. When it comes to books though, I like to read them before seeing the movie (does anyone ever see the movie first then read the book?). Depending on the subject matter or some situations, I sometimes will pass on the movie because reading the details was enough that having it played out before my eyes might be more than I can hand...

Vote for 5 in 5

Image
Hello friends! Hope you all enjoyed a sparkly fun 4th! Or Canada Day (on 1st) for some of you…or just a two-day weekend for others... It was a good weekend here with lots of sunshine! Wait, did I say sunshine? Here? In Western Washington? Yes! We had sun and lots of it (ok, there was one sorta cloudy day and some rain one night) – and heat! Some will say it was a scorcher (80 degrees). I wouldn’t go that far but it was so nice to be out and about in warm weather again. It was much needed and much appreciated here. No doubt our garden has been soaking up the rays. I noticed over the weekend some of you have entered yourselves in the HotRawChef.com 5 in 5 contest . Woo hoo! Good for you! With a few of you whose blogs I follow regularly, you’re making this vote particularly difficult for me. For those not familiar with this contest, entrants submit a video of their recipe that involves five main ingredients in five minutes or less – 5 in 5. Here are three videos from blog frien...

Happy Friday!

Did you watch any of the Royal Wedding? A little too early for me but I hope to see some of it in reruns; I have seen many of the pictures, though. Kate’s dress is beeeyoooteeful! Perfect for her. And perfect for a royal wedding! Seeing her reminded me how I always wanted to be a princess. Well, a queen actually but then I thought it might be too much responsibility so I’d settle for princess. :) ~ It’s a good thing I wasn’t invited (believe me, I looked for that invite – must’ve gotten lost in the mail) because what sort of wedding gift do you give a royal couple??? I mean, seriously. This weekend for us will be pretty busy as we’ve got some big garden happenings tomorrow (time to get everything ready for planting and weather is supposed to be great - yay!) and maybe, just maybe , a trip to the zoo for YS2’s birthday, which isn’t until Tuesday. If not, then soon! He will *love* it there! But I’ve got other things I need to pick up for his b-day. We already got his “big” gift ...

Easter Weekend Recap

Image
Hello guys! Hopefully, you all had a great Easter weekend. I know one person did (congrats!)! Can you believe it’s the last week of April?? Wow. You know what this means…it’s almost YS2’s second birthday! Next Tuesday. Sniff. My lil guy is becoming a BOY! Just prior to this past weekend, I started to get a cold. A slow-moving cold. It finally gained steam and presented itself on Sunday. Poo. I will say if you have to get a cold, this is the one to get (like we have a choice). It’s slow to take hold and the worst symptoms are lack of energy and nasal congestion/cough. No headaches, no grumpiness (not counting being annoyed), no sore throat, no feeling really bad. The end. I was still able to fix dinner (not raw, far from it except for salad). I really wanted what I had planned: vegan shepherd’s pie, salad with balsamic vinaigrette sprinkled with pistachios, and apple crisp for dessert. Um, hello! No pics. Nope, notta one! Lame huh? By the time it was all ready it was time to e...

Weekend Recap

Image
Howdy kids! Hopefully, you had a good weekend. As usual, it wasn’t long enough but my weekend was good. Not too busy which was nice. Saturday we had wacko typical spring weather where we had rain squalls throughout the day so in between we had some sun breaks and even hail. Sunday’s weather was better. Sorta. It didn’t rain, if that counts. It was cloudy, a little breezy at times, and cold. We spent a few hours at the community garden . I didn’t do much there other than get my ego stroked from people telling me how smart YS2 is and chase after him everywhere! He’s a quick one that little guy. We met hubby’s brother, Matt, there. Caleb is enamored with Matt. In fact, the day before all during dinner, he kept saying “Ma’h!” (said like Matt but without the T – a hard short H sound instead). We took this as a hint to call Matt and invite him out to the garden. I’m sure you wanted to know all that… Did you know that Sam is on the community garden board again? He took last ...

The Best Laid Plans...

Image
...of mice and men often go astray - adapted from Robert Burns, To a Mouse , November 1785 Hola amigos (I should just say amigas since there are more girlies reading this than boys I’m sure…)! Hope you all had a fine weekend. Me? Well, you can guess based on the title and opening line things didn’t quite go as planned. Before I begin, I’d like to say to whoever is charge of making weekends a 2-day thing to please consider 5 days. That would be really nice. K, thanks. Saturday started out as planned: busy. To get me going, I made my usual smoothie with banana, spinach, peanut butter, cacao, and other tasty things. YS2 likes this too so we shared. To spare you the play-by-play, we ran our errands and did our things. We did stop at an Asian market that just opened a little closer to us. And we did our part to support them by sampling a few veggie eats (we ignored for the moment the possible bad things in it [animal products were avoided, however]) and picking up a cute miso bowl fo...
