A Stalker with Purpose

Image
I stalk many a blog. I’ve got my blog roll, but there are many others I visit that I don’t have listed or I’m subscribed to via email. Btw, to those who’ve added the email feature to their blogs, thanks! Love it! When there are recipes or ideas I want to keep, saving them in email is so much easier – plus I can keep up or catch up better this way than with google reader. IMO. Anyway…ramble ramble… One of those blogs I stalk is Sarah’s of My New Roots . I’ve caught myself on more than one occasion drooling over her various creations. Hmm…do I dare pass along a HiHoRosie Blog Fave badge to her even though she has no clue as to who I am or what the deal is about an HHR Blog Fave award anyway? Ah, sure, why not! It’s just a little token of appreciation or recognition to a blog I really enjoy. She, nor anyone else I’ve bestowed a badge to, is obligated to accept, display, or acknowledge this award in any way. I only share it right here with you. If she, or anyone else, happens to stu...

Nooch n’ Booch

Image
isn't that just the sweetest face?! So I just have to brag a bit about my cutie-patootie, YS2. He’s 20 months old now and is talking lots. He knows how to say GUITAR! It’s so cute! It comes out like gih-gih-gihtarh!Oh and he says “um” – guess who says that? :/ I need to stop with the conversation fillers (I say so a lot too). He also loves to point to certain letters and sound them out like O, A, B, C, and T. He is going to be an early reader, I think. Okay, this isn’t the bragging part (tee hee!). I believe I’ve mentioned before his love of ‘nooch’ (term for nutritional yeast for those not familiar) but he seriously *loves* it! He loves food that’s made with it or is sprinkled on top. He’s even dipped his apple wedge in it. But his favorite way to eat it is for me to put a small pile on his tray so he can dip his fingers in to lick clean or better yet, putting his face in it and licking it up. This is hard core, people. Even I don’t do that! ;) source ...

Weekend in Review

Image
Don’t you just love weekends? There never seems to be enough of them I think. Ha ha! We had a lovely weekend here. Saturday was GOOOOOOOORRRRRRRRRRRGGGGEEEEEOUUUUUSSSSSSSSSSSS! Try that in a spelling bee. More like math – counting all those extra letters. One thing about the PacNW is when the sun is shining with few to no clouds, there’s nothing like it. We have so much green and then pair that with blue skies and water it’s simply amazing. It was in the mid 70’s (I don’t know actually – warm enough for flip flops and shorts) and a day to get out. And for one couple we spotted, to get married. Aww! They timed that perfectly because Sunday was cloudy, balmy and rainy. I missed out on seeing the beautiful bride – spotted her veiled head in the white Rolls but her bridesmaids were pretty in pink with a bright red flower in their pulled back ‘dos. May not sound pretty but trust me they were pretty. Anyway, we took a long stroll along the waterfront soaking in the sun. YS2 was having a ...

Luck O’ the Irish

Image
So I’ve been curious about Irish moss for sometime now but have yet to use it let alone eat it. I plan on using it for raw desserts whenever I get the chance and motivation. Baby steps folks. Hee hee! I should clarify: I have the motivation but it’s usually the lack the time and/or the necessary ingredients. Anyway…I’ve been spotting it at my local raw vegan store but just never got brave enough to buy it. Well, Sam was placing an order through Mountain Rose Herbs (they’re awesome btw) so I asked him to order some Irish moss while he was at it. Hmm…this looks different than what I was seeing at the vegan store. Does this look right to you Irish moss users? I’m used it being lighter in color and in more whole pieces (kind of like this ). Can I still soak this? I purposely haven’t opened the package in case I need to return it. Anyway, there’s also a powder which I thought was interesting. According the profile, it’s mainly used for medicinal purposes. For those not familiar wi...

Chia and a Blog Fave

Image
Happy Sunday! Hope the weekend was fabulous for you. The weather here is a total drag. It’s June and we’re still fighting rain. :( At least ½ the weekend (yesterday) was good weather wise. We were able to get out into the fresh clean air and enjoy some much needed and welcome sun beams. Thanks to The Daily Raw Café and Chia Seeds Direct  for my two-pound bag of chia seeds. I’m so glad I won these because we were out. They sure are sticky little buggers huh? Especially with a one year old. Caleb/YS2 loves ‘em. They’re usually added to smoothies and whatnot. google images I made Aimee’s latest chia pudding recipe – twice in one day, in fact. YS2 was particularly a fan – can you say snarf ?! Well, at least there’s no doubt where he’ll be getting his calcium ! He even loved the banana nut milk by itself. The only thing I changed was instead of almond butter I used peanut butter, just because I didn’t have any and didn’t feel like making some at the time. However, almond butt...

Misc Stuff and a Blog Fave

Image
First, thank you all for the happy birthday greetings and wishes for Caleb/YS2/Green Beard/Sprout. It was a great day. I’m still trying to grasp the fact that he’s ONE. It’s bittersweet – I love all the changes and fun things he can do now but I miss how small he was and his coo’s and his helplessness (even those “newborn moves” like the wayward arm or leg-ha ha!). Now, he loves his independence. Such a mix of emotions for me - so glad he’s a part of our family. Again, thank you all! He’ll know you as part of his ‘extended family.’ And for those who don’t know why he’s sometimes called ‘YS2’ it’s because his daddy is Yardsnacker . Deb of Debbie Does Raw came up with the nickname Yardsnacker 2 or YS2 and it stuck. :) I got some exciting bit of news yesterday – an email from Suzane informing me I was listed in her 50 Best Blogs for Raw Food Recipes & Inspiration ! To say the least, I’m honored. Especially knowing the number of raw blogs out there with valuable content, to even...

Blog Fave

Image
I picked up some organic strawberries today – don’t they look pretty and delicious? Ahem, please excuse the cell phone quality; it was the camera of choice at the time. Anyway, love ‘em! This particular batch was pretty good; not the best but they served their purpose. Looking forward to picking some fresh ones from our garden. Now, those are the best! In case you haven’t seen my current giveaway, check it out for a 16 oz jar of spirulina manna from Healthforce Nutritionals. Okay, this post isn’t about strawberries or spirulina, although strawberries are my favorite fruit/berry in the whole world and you know how I feel about spirulina but this is actually a post about another blog fave of mine. I’m admitting to hand selecting this one instead of being random but hey, there’s a purpose. And you’ll soon learn why for yourself. ::shine spotlight:: Amanda is her name and Live My Life NOW Trek is her blog. Amanda is about to embark on a trek ACROSS AMERICA! Hey, I’m impressed if so...

A Fave

Image
I'm putting my "PS's" at the beginning here... P.S. Before we get started here, I just want to say sorry for the "ghost post" I published last night. That's for those who caught it in their readers only to find it really wasn't there. I was distracted and hit publish instead of save. Normally, I can remedy any goofs like this right away because I'm about to submit it for real but I wasn't ready this time. Obviously. I type my posts out in Word before I go to blogger but I was getting it all ready because I only had one last thing left to do. Oh well. Here we are now. :) P.P.S. Lauren at Ginger is the New Pink is the winner of my recent giveaway for a Kid Basix Safe Sippy cup ! Woo hoo! Many thanks to EcoMom.com for sponsoring. ******* There was a time, way back when, where blogging to me was a “no way.” I could read others’ blogs but I had zero intention of starting a blog myself. Well, two years later here I am. I just realized when typ...
