Giveaway: Eco Yoga Mat

Image
Hello Everyone! I have a (last minute) giveaway to share with you today. Recently, I had been chatting on Twitter with @GeneralElectric  about health (they liked the juices I was making with YS2). So just for fun they sent me a gift, which turns out to be an eco-friendly yoga mat. Woo hoo! I've been meaning to get one but didn't know where to begin in finding one. Well, I have TWO because they were generous to send me another to give to a friend . I thought, my readers are my friends so a giveaway came to mind. I will say that I have not used this mat (or any other) before so I can't compare it and since I just got it today I can't review it either other than I like what I see and feel. It's new to me but I'm looking forward to using it. Often. I hope. :) GE has a facebook app (facebook.com/healthy) that you can sign up for that will help you and friends stay motivated to achieve your health goals or you can take a peak at HealthyShare.com or use the ha...

Bzzz!

Image
Hey hey everybody! Long time no blog -- heh heh! I have been a most horrible blogger, I know, but it wasn’t my intention to be away for as long as I was. It is what is, right? If you follow me on twitter or instagram (hihorosie) or pinterest (and sometimes facebook ) you'll see I'm still around and active. So if you can't find me here, you can find me at one of those places. But you should see more posts from me on the ol' blog. Anyway, this post is one I actually started over a month ago to recap my 5K on May 20th. Uh…oops. Many thanks to those who posted lovely messages on my personal facebook page and/or gave thumbs up on my 5K pics. I’ll post some repeats below plus some new ones. But first, let’s talk about it a bit. We had pretty ideal weather, cool but with a chance of rain. During the walk, it only sprinkled a little, otherwise it was perfect. The 5K was to support our local parks, which had over 800 participants. Many were families (lots of ...

WEGO Health: My Health Focus Pinboard

Image
Day 16 of HAWMC/WEGO Health . Today’s exercise or challenge is to create a pinboard for my health focus and pin three things. Easy! Except, I pinned four things because I’m a rebel that way. The first image I think is self-explanatory. I was blessed with a healthy body. It’s not perfect and it never will be but I have a responsibility to myself and my family to take care of it best I can. I don’t want to wake up one day and say, “I wish I did…” Walking: this is my current form of exercise. Not bad at all I say! I don’t have to be a marathon runner or be able to lift 350 pounds to be considered healthy and/or fit. Walking is enjoyable and something I don’t have to think about as exercise. Plus, it's free and eco-friendly. Going to a gym to workout isn’t my idea of a good time -- not to say I wouldn’t ever go or it doesn’t have its many benefits, it’s just not as fun to me as going for a walk in the great outdoors, granted the weather cooperates. Ha! Anyway, seeing this ...

Ups and Downs

Image
Heyho! How is everyone? I’m trying to get caught up with all the posts I have planned so bear with me if several come at you at once. Not on the same day mind you (the exception being on Thoughtful Thursdays – there might be some overlap) however, over the next week or two. Some are “past their prime” but still want to share. Moving on to the title of this post: Ups and Downs. [ source ] Anyway, recently I was asked about a little thing I so excitedly talked about awhile back. Remember the Climb for Air I was planning on signing up for to get me back into exercising regularly? I wanted to do this as an incentive to get moving (besides it being a great cause). Well... I failed. I dropped the ball. I sat on my butt. [ source ] Oops. This apparently wasn't my start. It'd be so easy to berate myself right here right now but instead I will find a new start. I can begin again. [ source ] [ source ] So while I might have failed to get moving in time to co...

Training

Image
Happy Friday! Ready for the weekend? I am! I’m in training, as in exercise. Okay, don’t laugh. I’m being serious. I have been meaning to get off my duff and exercise more; to work out; to get active. I don’t do nearly as much as I should and it’s obvious. Well, the time is now. My inspiration: This flyer came across my desk and I thought, “I want to do this!” Hmm…let’s think about this. I don’t like to run, climb stairs, or knowing that I’m exercising in general – I like being active but not the act of exercising, if that makes sense. I haven’t been walking daily or as often as I should. I love yoga but again, haven’t done it in eons. I huff and puff because I’m out of shape. I can be competitive – I don't care to beat out anybody on this climb but it has sparked my determination and competitiveness to put my goal of getting fit into action. Gotta start somewhere right? So this is my personal competition to prove to myself I can do it. I’ve got three months to prep and t...

Springing Forward

Image
Spring has sprung and now summer is well upon us. Ah spring. A time for change, new directions, cleaning and re-evaluating. I missed out on spring somewhat because I was busy with other things . ;) I'm at a point now where I'm ready to make some changes that had changed during pregnancy -- if that made sense. While I was pregnant, I ate a fair amount of cooked while still eating some raw foods. Now I'm starting to feel that I'm ready to get back in the game (helps that YS2 is sleeping more at night -- three nights in a row it's been 6 or more hours at a time -- Yeehaw!). The raw game that is. I plan on easing back into it as I'm still nursing but with the help of Yardsnacker , I'm having more fresh juices, raw fruits/veggies and those yummy green smoothies. Along with that change, I'm trying to exercise, get out in the fresh air more. This seems to bode very well with YS2. He comes home all tuckered out and sleeps really well through the nights we've...

Conquering

Image
I have conquered three days so far on the 100-day raw food challenge! WEEE! Not that it was terribly hard for me as there have been many days in the past, consecutive even, where I've been all raw without trying. Now the key is to be sure I'm consistent while on the challenge. It's definitely easier having a spouse who's raw so there's not much in way of temptation lying around. Although, maybe for him since he's juice feasting. :) Ah, but speaking of temptation we did go to the farmer's market yesterday and I was really tempted by the smells of kettle corn. It was ever.y.where. Instead I sampled d onut peaches (told hubby h ow delicious they were) and picked up some organic beets for hubby's juicing. So far my meals have been very simple. I think if I were to go all gourmet or something well, that just might be cruel to Sam ! He's told me not to worry about it. Anyway, one of my favorite things to eat is a huge bowlful of fresh papaya and banana t...

Are You Ready for Some Raw Fu?

Image
Try singing the title of my post to "Are you ready for some football?" Too weird? Too silly? Get used to it. hee hee! I am about ready for the start of this challenge tomorrow. I'm not too worried about how it'll go. Or maybe I should? I did have more than my fair share of cooked food prior to the lead up which isn't good nor was it my intention but I am ready to put it behind me for at least 100 days. You know that seems like a long time but how quickly time will fly no doubt. Special thanks to my sis who has been supportive of my and Yardsnacker's healthful ways and to support us even more she is doing her own personal 100-day challenge alongside us. And it goes without saying that hubby is also very supportive. To all of you who are on board with Raw Fu or are cheering me and the others on from your corners of the world, much appreciation goes out to you. Having all of this support and encouragement will go a long way in this challenge. It's been fun...
