Bzzz!

Hey hey everybody! Long time no blog -- heh heh! I have been a most horrible blogger, I know, but it wasn’t my intention to be away for as long as I was. It is what is, right? If you follow me on twitter or instagram (hihorosie) or pinterest (and sometimes facebook ) you'll see I'm still around and active. So if you can't find me here, you can find me at one of those places. But you should see more posts from me on the ol' blog. Anyway, this post is one I actually started over a month ago to recap my 5K on May 20th. Uh…oops. Many thanks to those who posted lovely messages on my personal facebook page and/or gave thumbs up on my 5K pics. I’ll post some repeats below plus some new ones. But first, let’s talk about it a bit. We had pretty ideal weather, cool but with a chance of rain. During the walk, it only sprinkled a little, otherwise it was perfect. The 5K was to support our local parks, which had over 800 participants. Many were families (lots of ...

WEGO Health: Recap

Image
Hey hey everybody! Hooo-weeee! I made it! I completed my first ever writer's challenge. Glad I could participate in the WEGO Health - Health Activist Writer's Month Challenge, writing 30 posts in 30 days. Well...I did 25 out of 30. Not too shabby. I want to THANK YOU all for reading along and supporting me in my challenge, which was no easy feat (for you or for me *wink*). I learned in this process that I still do not desire to write everyday. Ha ha! I was able to participate in this challenge mainly because my time allowed but as you may have noticed, I started to slow down at the end. This was both for needing a break and also work starting to get busy again. What was great about this challenge, with the help of the topic prompts, was stretching myself in different ways; thinking outside of my norm. It brought new life and motivation to my health focus and blogging as a whole. A few of my favorite challenges were the health haikus, open a book ..., and a letter to...

WEGO Health: The First Time I...

Image
It’s been awhile since I’ve posted. Well, I mean during this challenge. Any normal month, skipping a few days+ is my norm. Anyway, back with a just-under-the-wire post. I thought I’d make this post on something fun and non-health related; a flashback for you. The first time I learned to drive a car. Well, I had a few “dry runs” with family members when I was 15-16 years old so I got the basics down but those times were usually in parking lots where no other cars were around. So it was fun but no real test. When it came down to getting serious about learning how to drive, well, that’s where it got interesting. Driver’s Ed was part of my school’s curriculum, a semester’s worth. And depending on when your birthday fell, one quarter was on safety/drug and alcohol where you sat in a classroom and watched all the horror films and the other quarter was practicing all the necessary skills in the back parking lot before going out on the road. Oh, and because this was part of the cu...

WEGO Health: Open a Book...

Day 18: Choose a book and open it to a random page and point to a phrase. Use that phrase to get you writing today. From The Hunger Games : I want to run away. Disappear into the woods like I did that day they brought the burn victim to our house. Go and hunt while my mother and Prim attend to what I have neither the skill nor the courage to face. But there’s no one here but me. I try to capture the calm demeanor my mother assumes when handling particularly bad cases. Putting aside the actual story here (have you read it or the series, btw?), what I glean from this paragraph are the times we’re faced with something we don’t want to, especially when there’s no one else around to rely on. source Oh, how many times I’ve wanted to stick my head in the sand or run away too. Sometimes I do turn the other way and pretend to not notice and continue to live in my happy bubble. Other times, I’m a bull and those in my way had better watch out! I wish I always had the cou...

Getting Back in the Groove

Image
Hellooo! I feel like I’ve been away for so long, too long. I’ve popped in here and there but it’s been awhile since I sat down and gave my blog (and you) a little more attention. I was so busy that I completely forgot about my blog anniversary, which was in February. Funny. Oh well. Woo hoo. I do feel a little out of touch and definitely a lot behind. I always feel guilty posting on my blog before I’ve caught up on everyone else’s. Like I'm being selfish but here I am. I find that when I do have breaks, usually in the late evening, blogging isn’t at the top of my list. I’m more likely to do something a little more mindless such as Pinterest (and pin like a mad woman!) or watching Survivor. I’m in my downtime period now so hopefully I’ll be a little more present, here and there. Being busy then follow that up with laziness, I still haven’t done my raw foods shopping. Grr. How many times have I mentioned this?? So instead I made some semi-raw/rawish " no-bake energy bites ...

Ups and Downs

Image
Heyho! How is everyone? I’m trying to get caught up with all the posts I have planned so bear with me if several come at you at once. Not on the same day mind you (the exception being on Thoughtful Thursdays – there might be some overlap) however, over the next week or two. Some are “past their prime” but still want to share. Moving on to the title of this post: Ups and Downs. [ source ] Anyway, recently I was asked about a little thing I so excitedly talked about awhile back. Remember the Climb for Air I was planning on signing up for to get me back into exercising regularly? I wanted to do this as an incentive to get moving (besides it being a great cause). Well... I failed. I dropped the ball. I sat on my butt. [ source ] Oops. This apparently wasn't my start. It'd be so easy to berate myself right here right now but instead I will find a new start. I can begin again. [ source ] [ source ] So while I might have failed to get moving in time to co...

From the Great Beyond…

Image
...I am here. So, um, yeah. Hi. How are you? Did you miss me? It’s okay if you didn’t. I missed you though. I did. I really did. I thought about you and the ol’ blog a lot. A. Lot! I just couldn’t get it (blogging) to happen. Nothing major or particularly exciting going on, just life is all. Work, home, YS2, garden, family, errands, spring, summer, laziness, you know…life. :) May and June were pretty much nonexistent around here. Whoops. As I’ve mentioned before on one of my other absences, I make no apology for it anymore. I feel bad, even guilty but it happens (I don’t get paid enough [zip] I tell ya). I’m sure you’ve all been there. Some are nutty enough to blog in the middle of the night (after living life a full day). I can’t/don’t/won’t do that. Unless I have insomnia, which I don’t. I love sleep but never seem to get enough. What’s funny in all of this is just before I took my “break,” I had been blogging somewhat regularly. For me, anyway. About 2-3 times a week (+/-), I ...

I'm Alive!

Image
Hello? Is there anybody out there? [cue in crickets chirping ] Oh wait, it's ME who's been away...hee hee! Just a quick post to let you know I'm ALIVE, I'm WELL, and I'm HERE! I've just been busy busy these days ( weeks I guess - can't believe it's been three weeks since my last post). Anyway, I'm slowly catching up with some blog reading and hope to post a real post very soon. Got some things I need to chat about. Thanks to those who sent out the rescue teams, checking to see I was alright. It was an unintentional long absence but thanks to everyone who's still there. :)

It's (Not) Tax Day

Image
Happy (?) Tax Day! ha ha! Even if you're getting a refund, I think we'd all agree we pay too much in taxes but it is what is, right? Hopefully, you are getting a refund anyway. I am - very little but still it's somethin'. Refunds are always nice. But did you know that taxes aren't technically due until Monday, April 18th ? Thanks Rawkin Mom for mentioning that. Here's an article about it if curious. Here's a little diddy in honor of those darn taxes!

The Best Laid Plans...

...of mice and men often go astray - adapted from Robert Burns, To a Mouse , November 1785 Hola amigos (I should just say amigas since there are more girlies reading this than boys I’m sure…)! Hope you all had a fine weekend. Me? Well, you can guess based on the title and opening line things didn’t quite go as planned. Before I begin, I’d like to say to whoever is charge of making weekends a 2-day thing to please consider 5 days. That would be really nice. K, thanks. Saturday started out as planned: busy. To get me going, I made my usual smoothie with banana, spinach, peanut butter, cacao, and other tasty things. YS2 likes this too so we shared. To spare you the play-by-play, we ran our errands and did our things. We did stop at an Asian market that just opened a little closer to us. And we did our part to support them by sampling a few veggie eats (we ignored for the moment the possible bad things in it [animal products were avoided, however]) and picking up a cute miso bowl fo...
