Catching up

Image
Hi Everyone! Happy 4 t h o f J u l y ! For me, it's time for a stay-cation to relax and play and sleep and whatever else I need to catch up on. Speaking of catching up, here are some pics I took in late April when YS2 and I went to a local botanical garden. I love gardens and this one was simply magical to me. I actually used my digital camera instead of my cellphone so the quality is an improvement from my usual here. Because I had so many pictures and not wanting to bore those who may not be interested or wanting to see them all, I'm posting as a slideshow from my Flickr account (and there's many more not included!). Funny thing is, I couldn't remember my original Flickr account info it's been so long so I had to re-register. Oh, and guess what? Little YS2 finally got his first haircut! He was 3 years and 44 days old... even though it looks like he was really crabby, he actually wasn't :) I nearly lost it when those first snips hap...

Quiet Days

Remember to enter my giveaway for a Trek Light Gear double hammock . You really don’t want to pass this one up (but for the other entrants they do, you know, to better their chances *wink*). And don’t let the cooler weather keep you from entering (if you’re a hardcore outdoorsy type then weather isn’t an issue) because this hammock is so lightweight and compact that storing wouldn’t be an issue until you’re ready to take out. Or you know, the holidays are coming up; would make a great gift…anyway, go enter if you haven’t. We took Caleb to the mall the other night just for fun – window shopping and people watching. I always enjoy that and I know Caleb had fun. We let him walk around a bit, albeit carefully. He still hasn’t taken to wearing shoes so he was walking around in his socks. Although, Sam found him some shoes at Target he would finally wear. Looks like a great fit to me. What do you think?  At the mall: Bummer thing is, less than 12 hours later, he woke up with...

A Fave

I'm putting my "PS's" at the beginning here... P.S. Before we get started here, I just want to say sorry for the "ghost post" I published last night. That's for those who caught it in their readers only to find it really wasn't there. I was distracted and hit publish instead of save. Normally, I can remedy any goofs like this right away because I'm about to submit it for real but I wasn't ready this time. Obviously. I type my posts out in Word before I go to blogger but I was getting it all ready because I only had one last thing left to do. Oh well. Here we are now. :) P.P.S. Lauren at Ginger is the New Pink is the winner of my recent giveaway for a Kid Basix Safe Sippy cup ! Woo hoo! Many thanks to EcoMom.com for sponsoring. ******* There was a time, way back when, where blogging to me was a “no way.” I could read others’ blogs but I had zero intention of starting a blog myself. Well, two years later here I am. I just realized when typ...

Hello! Anybody Out There?

Image
Please excuse the absence. No excuse other than I've been super busy with home life. I know you understand. Thing is, I wish I was more active in writing because I like to have a record of my happenings to look back on, especially now that I have YS2. :) (blanket made by AnnieofBlueGables ) Speaking of YS2, he is a DOLL! Okay, I am his mom and of course I'm going to say stuff like that all the time but seriously he really is! He's fast approaching the six month mark but for now we'll just say he's 5 1/2 months old. I can't believe it actually. In a blink he's grown so much. Just the other day he learned how to roll over the other way. You see, he's been able to roll over from back to tummy for awhile now. Since he was 3 1/2 months. But, Papa YS was teaching our lil sprout how to roll back to his back. Well, then the next day he totally did it all on his own! Now, we have to be ready for him learning to crawl soon. ACK!!!!!! Because I've just been ...

YS2

Two weeks ago this day I gave birth to our son, Caleb (here's a pic from when he was a few days old). It wasn't easy getting him here but thankfully Caleb and I are doing great. I am forever grateful to my husband, Yardsnacker , for his love and support - I just wish it wasn't so hellacious on him. Also, thanks to him for donating blood and encouraging others to follow suit. Usually, I'm one who's donating blood - I've never been on the receiving end of those donations before. If you can, donate donate donate! If you didn't see the announcement/stats on Sam's blog here they are: Caleb born Sunday, May 3rd at 6:09 AM, weighed 7 lbs 5 oz and measured 21.5 inches long. And yes, he was born with strawberry blond hair. Everyone is giving me looks wondering how this could be but I'm tellin ya, Sam is the father! LOL! We don't need to go on the Jerry Springer show. Both of our mothers have reddish hair so we ended up passing all of our recessive genes ...

Honored

First off, happy anniversary to ME! My lil ol' blog has passed the one year mark. Well, it was last week on the 26th (oopsie!) but that's alright. It's been an interesting year. I began blogging with some apprehension because writing isn't typically how I express myself, although, I used to faithfully keep a journal (hand cramps!) as a teenager. With some inspiration and encouragement from my husband and sister I decided to venture into the blogging world. Or is it venturing into the dark side? ha ha! Hmmm... A lot of growth over the year. I've learned more about health, food and myself. I mean, hubby and I started gardening and I admit I actually enjoy it. My health improved, I lost weight and gained many friends. Oh, and I got pregnant too! Talk about growth....and so much for the weight I lost previously. Ha ha! At least, now I know what to do to get healthy and stay healthy whereas before, I just talked about how I wanted to get healthy but didn't know how o...

Poll is closed, results are in!

Image
Results being both unofficial and official. I went for my sonogram yesterday, which was very exciting! So the unofficial results are as predicted by readers: 25% voted a boy ; 25% voted twins and 50% voted a girl . Officially, I will tell you this first off I am NOT having TWINS! Big phew! Although, that would've been fun. Twins don't run in either of our families so I didn't think along those lines much - well, maybe a little. :) Now, boy or girl? Well, a whole lotta you thought girl (including me) not just here on my blog but at work, in my family, etc. Anytime someone I knew said "boy" I thought really? You sure? Well, the 25% of you who said boy and the rare person I spoke with who said boy are... Right. I'm having a BOY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We are so happy and excited and certainly looking forward to his debut next spring. What will he look like? What will we name him? Anyway, now call me biased but I believe he has the most perfect profil...

The "Glow"

Image
I know I'm supposed to be working on a different post - about my trip - but wanted to interrupt that to share something else. ******** People into the raw food lifestyle are familiar with the "glow." Maybe you're one who's been told a time or two that you have the glow. It's noticeable to spot a person who obviously is taking care of themselves by what they do and put into their bodies and especially when on the raw food lifestyle. Eating raw foods allows your body to properly process and digest foods plus all the those living enzymes and minerals means less work your body has to do so the result is a beautiful youthful glow. I have received such comments, which are always great to hear but I have been hearing this more so lately. From people who don't know me to people in the raw food world. When I was at our local raw vegan sto re one of the owners we nt on about how I (and hubby too) have transformed since she first met me; that I do have a healthy glow...

Pint-Sized Love

Image
I did it! Woo hoo! I did it! I did it! I did it! I donated blood today. Why is this so exciting? Well, the last time I tried to donate it wasn't a good day but today I passed the iron test with flying colors of red! Red as in my blood. This also means I received my one gallon pin . I'll add a picture of it when I have my camera. My phone takes horrible pictures as witnessed by my arm pic above. Did you know that with each pint of blood it can help up to three lives? So those eight pints, or one gallon, that I donated means I could've potentially helped 24 people. Gets me emotional thinking about it that way. I admire those who can donate regularly. Curious about more blood facts? If so, click here . Although, for #39, which states there is no substitute for human blood, however it is a fact that coconut water, in cases of emergencies, can be used as a sub for blood plasma . Here's more info on blood plasma . I had a good feeling about today; actually, I just really wan...

100 and Ramblings

Image
Hey, this is my 100th post ! I can't believe it. Who knew my lowly ol' blog would've made it this far? I've come a long way from the days of saying I would never have a blog. Sigh, I remember when I first saw my name listed on someone's blogroll. I felt like a STAR! Thanks to my hubby and my sis for their support and encouraging words when I first started and thank you all for coming along for the ride and enduring my many rambles. Your support and encouragement is also greatly appreciated. I mean you're my friends now! That means a lot to me. In the few days since my last post, where I bragged about losing 5 pounds, yeah, well two of those pounds are back. :( I don't believe it's all due to the Korean food I ate but maybe partly? Could it just be water retention? I dunno but I'm not exactly pleased but I'm also not going to obsess over it. As I've said in prior posts my challenge over the 100 days is to be vegan and mostly raw so I was happy...

Special Day

Image
Just want to send a special congratulations to my husband, Yardsnacker , who celebrates a special milestone today. Today is his one year anniversay as a super-rockin raw foodist! Woo hoo! As some of you know this can be very challenging (I know!) but he was motivated, determined and enthusiastic about each day. Way to go! It's been so great to see him change and accomplish so much over the past year. It's funny, once he started changing his eating habits early on I knew with him there was no looking back. It wasn't going to be anything temporary but an actual lifestyle change. And hey, thanks to him I've also reaped the rewards of this healthy lifestyle. Congratulations sweetie! Ya done good. Mwah!
