UGH! Warning: Vulgar Words

I really wonder about some people, particularly lawmakers who think they know all. Warning: I swear below and it's not pretty. If you'd rather not read my commentary check out this video instead. Visit msnbc.com for breaking news , world news , and news about the economy A lawmaker in Georgia is proposing the death penalty for women who miscarry . ????????????????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!????????????!?!?!?!?!?!?! You've got to be f*cking kidding me! Is he for real? Yup, he is. And this isn't the first time this has been proposed. The state of Utah tried to pass a similar law but it failed. Good thing. Could you imagine? I can't even begin to tell you how pissed off this makes me that someone would consider death of a woman/mother because her pregnancy isn't viable. Unfortunately, miscarries happen; they're very common. I couldn't even imagine being a woman who's been trying and trying and trying to get pregnant and is then condemned to death for it. ...

Nothing's Changed

I ran across an article today about how the US is (still) behind when it comes to parental leave. Not much has changed since the last time I mentioned this from another corresponding article. Currently, the US has the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) which allows family members to take up to 12 weeks of unpaid leave. A lot of families/individuals can't afford to take unpaid leave so while this act is nice for some, it's useless for others. I will say that there are companies who have their own family/medical policies in place that involve paid leave but those companies are usually far and few between. I am very fortunate enough to work for a company that is flexible with schedules and is supportive of all of their employees' families' needs. The recent article mentions that California and New Jersery are the only states who currently have a paid-leave program in place (bonus points for them!). However, other states are being encouraged to do the same and if s...

Get with the Program US!

I am a firm believer/supporter that the United States should guarantee paid family leave (newborn, adoptions, ill family member, etc). I mean come on already! Can you believe we are listed as one of the worst countries when it comes to supporting working parents?! In fact we rank among Liberia, Swaziland, and Papua New Guinea that have zero paid maternity leave. When I was pregnant I kept hearing about how this country or that country had great policies in place for pregnant women and/or families (some up to a year or more! Although, not certain that whole time was paid). Sure, we are "granted" 12 weeks but it's unpaid . I had to use my vacation for my time off - and depending on your employer's personal time policy may not be as much as you'd like. Sheesh. Having a newborn isn't a vacation but it is fun! :) Anyway, here's an article I'd like to pass along that shares this same view. What do you think?

Sarah Pahlin on SNL

Now I'm not going to go all political here, that's just really not my thing so I won't be sharing who I'm voting for and my opinions of the candidates and/or issues will be far and few between here on my blog. Plain and simple, it stresses me out so I try to live in my rainbow-filled bubble instead. :) But I have to admit Sarah Pahlin's interview with Katie Couric (that's just one part) was very uncomfortable don't you think? Of course there was bound to be parodies. I'm taking a risk that this parody from SNL might offend some people but this was too funny to pass up. So even though I might be tight-lipped about most politics and politicians feel free to express yourself as you see fit. Just no attacking of others or mean-spirited comments please.
