Bzzz!

Hey hey everybody! Long time no blog -- heh heh! I have been a most horrible blogger, I know, but it wasn’t my intention to be away for as long as I was. It is what is, right? If you follow me on twitter or instagram (hihorosie) or pinterest (and sometimes facebook ) you'll see I'm still around and active. So if you can't find me here, you can find me at one of those places. But you should see more posts from me on the ol' blog. Anyway, this post is one I actually started over a month ago to recap my 5K on May 20th. Uh…oops. Many thanks to those who posted lovely messages on my personal facebook page and/or gave thumbs up on my 5K pics. I’ll post some repeats below plus some new ones. But first, let’s talk about it a bit. We had pretty ideal weather, cool but with a chance of rain. During the walk, it only sprinkled a little, otherwise it was perfect. The 5K was to support our local parks, which had over 800 participants. Many were families (lots of ...

WEGO Health: Recap

Image
Hey hey everybody! Hooo-weeee! I made it! I completed my first ever writer's challenge. Glad I could participate in the WEGO Health - Health Activist Writer's Month Challenge, writing 30 posts in 30 days. Well...I did 25 out of 30. Not too shabby. I want to THANK YOU all for reading along and supporting me in my challenge, which was no easy feat (for you or for me *wink*). I learned in this process that I still do not desire to write everyday. Ha ha! I was able to participate in this challenge mainly because my time allowed but as you may have noticed, I started to slow down at the end. This was both for needing a break and also work starting to get busy again. What was great about this challenge, with the help of the topic prompts, was stretching myself in different ways; thinking outside of my norm. It brought new life and motivation to my health focus and blogging as a whole. A few of my favorite challenges were the health haikus, open a book ..., and a letter to...

WEGO Health: Writing with Style

Image
Wow, I made it to day 15 of my writing challenge! And it's tax day ! Well, technically, this year it's April 17th. We finally did our taxes this week. Not sure what took us so long but whatever, they're done. Always glad when we get some money back. Anyway, today's topic: my writing style. An interesting topic and not one I've ever thought much of until now. I think of my style as pretty casual, easy going and happy. I don't like to be negative so I try to be more upbeat and positive with my content. Also, I try to follow the proper grammar and punctuation rules but I'm not strict about them either, in case that wasn't obvious. I know I've had my fair share of sloppy writing but I try to proof before publishing. The exception was my ramble post  (thanks for your support on that, btw). Grammar and punctuation aren't as important to me as spelling . When it comes to texting and comments though, not so much but in my posts I want to have corr...

Here WEGO!

Image
Hey hey everybody! Happy April and April Fool's Day! I have an announcement and it's not meant to be funny. :) For those of you who frequent my blog (thank you!) know that I’m typically not a daily blogger. On rare occasions I’ve posted more than once a day but usually I just write when I can but try to post 2-3 times a week. Sometimes it’s only once. Well, I thought I’d let you know about a challenge I’m participating in. I'm tellin' ya, it's not a joke... The Health Activist Writer’s Month Challenge hosted by WEGO Health . This means I will be writing a post a day for the next 30 days. Ack! That’s a lot for me! But I’m up for the challenge and will do my best to keep up. I have some topic prompts but may go off topic from time to time. There may be days of a “bonus” post where I blog more than once and it's guaranteed on Thoughtful Thursdays . Those will still be happening. So here WEGO (get it?)! Today’s WEGO Health topic :  A Health Time Capsule ...

Getting Back in the Groove

Image
Hellooo! I feel like I’ve been away for so long, too long. I’ve popped in here and there but it’s been awhile since I sat down and gave my blog (and you) a little more attention. I was so busy that I completely forgot about my blog anniversary, which was in February. Funny. Oh well. Woo hoo. I do feel a little out of touch and definitely a lot behind. I always feel guilty posting on my blog before I’ve caught up on everyone else’s. Like I'm being selfish but here I am. I find that when I do have breaks, usually in the late evening, blogging isn’t at the top of my list. I’m more likely to do something a little more mindless such as Pinterest (and pin like a mad woman!) or watching Survivor. I’m in my downtime period now so hopefully I’ll be a little more present, here and there. Being busy then follow that up with laziness, I still haven’t done my raw foods shopping. Grr. How many times have I mentioned this?? So instead I made some semi-raw/rawish " no-bake energy bites ...

Happy New Year!

Image
Happy New Year, friends! Isn't that the best happy New Year's quote? Thanks Tamikko via Pinterest! Hope you had wonderful holidays and celebrations or simply enjoyed some time off. :) It's been a fun and busy time for us as YS2 understands more of the hoopla surrounding the holidays. I had been wondering if we'd raise Caleb to "believe" in Santa. He'll know the real reason for Christmas and he'll know of Santa, of course, but wasn't sure I wanted to get into the whole Santa thing. Well, Sam convinced me (with little arm-twisting) to follow tradition and enjoy the spirit of Santa. So YS2 got Santa gifts and all that. I failed to get a picture of him with Santa this year though. #Lame. I think he recovered from last year's Santa experience  but I guess we'll never know for certain. Looking back at my childhood, I'm not sure if I believed in Santa. At least, I don't remember being disappointed in learning he wasn't real -- I...

More Catching Up

Image
Please excuse me while I organize myself here. Some of my posts will basically be catching up posts and are more for me so you might find them less exciting, mundane or random. But here we go… First up, thank you for your support and loyalty . You guys are so cool . I knew you’d understand when I say I blog when I can. Life is happening all the time; blogging can wait any old day. I figure those who don’t understand aren’t real people anyway. Ha! For YS2’s birthday last month we got him a Strider pre-bike or a balance bike. If you’re not familiar with a balance bike, it’s a little tyke bike without training wheels or pedals so the focus is on balance . Everyone can pedal or easily learn, right? But balancing on a bike isn’t that easy. When it’s time to transition to a “big boy” bike there will hopefully be less spills and owies and instead lots more yays and smiles. YS2 has gotten the hang of it and now sits on the seat and not just walk with it standing up (that's how they fir...

From the Great Beyond…

Image
...I am here. So, um, yeah. Hi. How are you? Did you miss me? It’s okay if you didn’t. I missed you though. I did. I really did. I thought about you and the ol’ blog a lot. A. Lot! I just couldn’t get it (blogging) to happen. Nothing major or particularly exciting going on, just life is all. Work, home, YS2, garden, family, errands, spring, summer, laziness, you know…life. :) May and June were pretty much nonexistent around here. Whoops. As I’ve mentioned before on one of my other absences, I make no apology for it anymore. I feel bad, even guilty but it happens (I don’t get paid enough [zip] I tell ya). I’m sure you’ve all been there. Some are nutty enough to blog in the middle of the night (after living life a full day). I can’t/don’t/won’t do that. Unless I have insomnia, which I don’t. I love sleep but never seem to get enough. What’s funny in all of this is just before I took my “break,” I had been blogging somewhat regularly. For me, anyway. About 2-3 times a week (+/-), I ...
