Post Christmas

>> Monday, December 27, 2010

Hello! Just wanted to say thanks again for the well wishes and healing thoughts. They truly helped and meant a lot to me. I'm not 100% yet (throat still hurts) but I'm way better than I was including no more pink eye.

Now that Christmas has passed, hopefully you survived :) Actually, I hope you were able to enjoy it and create wonderful memories.

Since last year at this time YS2 wasn’t very mobile, Christmas this year was a lot more fun and even challenging at times. Experiencing the holidays through his eyes was so fun and really made things more special. Everything was new and beautiful and exciting and well, just amazing. Nothing had to be elaborate or expensive or in mass quantity. And Santa is still some strange old guy.

Our tree this year was a “toddler tree.” Meaning, there were only lights, which kept getting yanked pulled off and a few ornaments hung on the top third of the tree out of reach of a 19 month old. So even though it was sparse, it was still the happiest and most amazing tree for our little guy. Every day he awed at it. The lights were a huge temptation (he heard lots of "no-no!" and "no touch!" and this mama got a little tired after awhile of fixing the lights). But seriously, this boy LOVES lights. We drove around many neighborhoods to look at lights. He would squeal every night when we turned on the outside lights. It’s like he couldn’t ever get enough of them. I love that!

Christmas morning was so fun to watch him walk into the living room, see the tree all lit up with lots of packages underneath. He was smiling and excited but didn’t quite know what to do or how to process it. We encouraged him to get up close and touch the shiny pretty packages.

When it comes to gifts I will say that being a kid, especially a wee-toddler, at Christmas time is the best. They’re easy to shop for and doesn’t take much to delight. I mean, YS2 is easily entertained by empty boxes and laundry baskets. Ha ha! It was fun helping him tear off the wrapping paper. He really started having fun once he got the hang of what to do. Yay for messes!

And of course, after everything was said and done he managed to find the best gift of all: a paper sack filled with the wrapping paper. Soon the contained mess was all over the living room floor but YS2 was happy.

Just can't believe it's over. I mean now New Year's is fast approaching. I am looking forward to a new year however. Maybe I'll even make some goals but we'll see. ;)

Happy Holidays!

>> Friday, December 24, 2010

From me to you: happiest of holidays, everyone! I hope that whatever you celebrate or wherever you celebrate that you and yours have a safe and merry time!

We were at a local nursery recently and saw Santa. We've been trying to get YS2 familiar with "santa" for a bit now so he knows who he is. Sorta. Well, at the nursery he spotted a doggie who was visiting Santa. He loves dogs! He was so focused on the puppy, whom he got to pet and give a kiss to (puppy kissed back - awww! [or eww]) that he didn't seem to notice Santa picking him up and placing him on his lap.

Then reality set in...

Merry Christmas!

Hot Mess

>> Sunday, December 19, 2010

Hey guys! The holidays are fast approaching! Are you ready? Are you all done with your shopping or still have last minute things to buy? Thanks to hubs, I think I'm pretty much done. Fortunately, the list was simple - not many big ticket items on there like tv stands (I could use one actually) or laptops.

Hubs had to finish shopping and sending out packages (forget the cards this year folks, not enough time!) because as I mentioned before I've been sick. Um yeah, it only got worse. ;(

I woke up Thursday morning with this horrible cold oozing out of my eyes! SOOOOO GROSS! Conjunctivitis better known as pink eye. Lovely. Hot mess I tell ya. Nothing like waking up with a goopy eye that's swollen and red. I've never had it before so I wasn't quite sure what I was dealing with. Oh how I wish I had known...

I ended up having to cancel my eye appointment for that day to renew my contact lens prescription. I'm pretty sure they wouldn't have appreciated me coming in and spreading my infection and also pretty sure it would've affected my exam.

So another day at home while still dealing with my common cold. Ah yes, the common cold which never seems so common when you're the one experiencing it. It seems to be the worst one ever. And for me, this one is. The last "worst one ever" was back when I was pregnant with YS2 in early 2009 and I remember my boss having the same cold (he's the one who shared) but because of our work schedule at the time both of us had to keep slaving away at the office while suffering. And being pregnant, I couldn't take anything. I just remember drinking lots of tea and sleeping as soon as I came home. Sorry but the 2010 cold is far worse.

After educating myself a bit on pink eye, I tried to keep hands away from the eyes (that's when it seems you need/want to touch them more doesn't it?) and washing my hands even more. I didn't want to spread it. I'd been paranoid already fearing I'd spread this cold to hubby and YS2 and now to add pink eye to the list. More lovely. I'm starting to panic a bit now.

On Friday, my left eye seemed to be on the mend. Not as swollen. No longer goopy. I'm thinking yay! This confidence was my downfall. Later in the day I noticed my right eye becoming more watery and possibly goopy. Great. I had spread the infection to both eyes now.

I started to really feel sorry for myself and began to cry. I had to isolate myself to ensure I'm not spreading this around. I didn't want Sam to get any of this stuff and I especially didn't want YS2 to get it. It would be far worse and more miserable for him. I had to take this one for the team. So far I have. I've been diligent about washing my hands and keeping YS2's hands away from my face too. Hubby has been awesome in doing everything for me and around the house and his immune system is working overtime. He's had to fight it and hopefully he has.

What's sad in all of this is since I seemed to be suffering from a viral infection of pink eye, there's nothing to be done. Just have to wait it out. Plus it's contagious for 7-10 days. Isn't that nice?

So anyway, to get me feeling better and to boost his immune system Sam made us a Vitamin-C Kapow! smoothie the other day. It had fresh oranges and kiwis, water and a banana. Blend it up and feel the POWER! Been having some fresh juices too and of course, lots and lots of tea.

I do seem to be on the mend now. But man, did this thing kick my butt. Not appreciated in the least but with all the craziness going on these days I'm not surprised. Just have to take better care of myself. Hope you all are taking good care of yourselves. This cold is truly the worst one ever and you don't want to find out the truth. Just take my word for it.

I still have other posts to share but I guess I had to get this last bit of feeling-sorry-for-myself out of my system. I think it's part of the healing. :)

Anyway, thanks for reading and for the many well wishes.

xoxo

Now, Forgive Me...

>> Thursday, December 16, 2010

I know I *just* posted this morning but I had one last thing to say:

To my husband...I love you with every fiber of my being! You keep me laughing every day, you cheer me on, you tell me I'm beautiful even when I feel the most ugly, you truly accept me for who I am. You've been there for me when others gave up and helped me through some really rough times over this past year. YOU are my best friend and soulmate. And I thank you (and God) everyday for blessing me with Caleb. What a joy he is. Happy anniversary, love! You are my inspiration (okay, as cheesy as that sounds it's true!)

Please Excuse Me

I'm sick as a dog (what's with that saying anyway?) and don't feel like doing much of anything unless I have to. I know I owe a post to update you on our little road trip (it was just overnight so not THAT exciting but for YS2 it was!) but I don't have much desire/energy to focus the time on it just yet.

This all started Monday night, where I could feel the throat start to get sore. Not scratchy or tickle-y but sore from where you first start to swallow. Fortunately, it's not strep (I've had that twice in my life and it's HORRIBLE) and I don't think it's the flu unless you consider it a 24 hour flu that turns into a very, very nasty cold. Had a fever of 102+ and slept a lot the first day. But whatever this illness is, it truly sucks. Glad it's happening this week and not next week, though. It's weird being home sick from work for three days. So unlike me.

I just pray with fingers and toes crossed that my family doesn't get my germs. Especially, lil YS2. Too much for a little body to handle. We're taking some holistic preventative measures for him and making sure he gets extra rest so his immune system will remain strong.

Anyway, hope to report back soon and get caught up on blogs very soon.

Goin' on a road trip!

>> Friday, December 10, 2010

Yup, it's true. Going on a little road trip with the fam. Should be interesting with a 19-month old...am I crazy?! ha ha!

Actually, lil YS2 is great traveler but this is his first real car trip. I'll have books to keep him occupied and hopefully entertained while in transit and also quality snacks at the ready. Maybe he'll even sleep on the way.

I'll update you later on where we went, what we did, and how it went. Wish us luck!  :)

>> Wednesday, December 8, 2010

Hey Everyone! How are you? Have you started/finished your holiday shopping? Not me. I've barely started. But that's par for the course with me. We do have lights up outside which absolutely delight YS2 everyday! He squeals, he laughs, he points, he dances, he ooh's and ahh's, and he's so happy seeing all the lights - at home and everywhere else. Have to say it's so fun experiencing the holidays with YS2. Seeing it through his eyes makes me so excited. He reminds me what it's all about and is making this time even more special and nothing like having kids around (whether your own or others') to help put things back in perspective and keep things simple.

Not to say I still don't have things yet to do... :)
